My partner and I have always been very conscious of our spending. We’d record prices of some of the items we buy regularly at various stores. We shopped around to find the best deals we could. When the pandemic hit, we found ourselves having a harder time keeping track of the wildly moving prices, figuring out what was a good deal and where, our baselines were shifting. We wanted a way to easily keep track of product prices, to compare across brands and size variations.
From these struggles, and the rise of computer vision the idea of Cart Genie was born. With Cart Genie we’re now able to take a picture of the price (and barcode if its separate) and Genie auto-magically puts the information we need into our personal database. I now have reference points to know if a sale price at one store is actually higher than the regular price at another store.
Cart Genie is still in its infancy, but here are a few of the features we plan to add, some of these will be premium:
- Ability to see prices scanned from others in your area to help you find other places to shop and save you money.
- Charts to see pricing over time, sometimes certain products at some stores have sales cycles and we hope to help you catch those
- Better faster user experience
- Improved AI capture
We welcome your feedback and please remember that we are growing and improving every day
Unfortunately AI is still very expensive to use for a small startup like us. We’re always working on optimizing but for now we have to serve up ads to help us cover costs. We will be rolling out a premium model in the near future that gets rid of ads and provides additional functionality.
You can correct most of the data you record. The best part is we’ll soon be able to use your corrections to make the capture even better and your app experience even smoother.
